IN THE SPOTLIGHT: MAISON KITSUNE’
Feb 19, 2021
In a homecoming of sorts, Maison Kitsuné’s Spring-Summer 2021 collection draws from the thread that unites Tokyo and Paris in the form of light, attitude, good taste, sense of humor and love of beautiful things. The vibes and the youth wardrobes typical of the two cities bond, forming a lineup that combines a bourgeoise Parisian prepster and Japanese utilitarian streetwear cool. So, imagine the idle pace of a French weekend, complete with striped rugby polo shirts, classic trench coats, sailor tops, cotton poplins and unisex maxi shirts, matched to a distinctive Japanese street fashion vibe interpreted via workwear cottons, waxed gabardines and silk Habotai bandanas. In a palette of classic earth-tones with hints of gentle pastels.
Overall, the new season nods at those who love to travel, to cities found on postcards, to selfies taken at the Café Kitsuné inside the Palais Royal Gardens with whiff of lightness, spontaneity, curiosity, and laughter.
Co-founded by Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki in 2002, Maison Kitsuné offers a unique, inspirational Art de Vivre lifestyle motto, blending a fashion brand (Maison Kitsuné), a music label (Kitsuné Musique) and coffee shops (Café Kitsuné). Over the last 16 years, the multi-faceted Paris-meets-Tokyo brand has consistently grown and increased its international awareness, solidifying a loyal fan base all over the world.
“Maison” is the French word for “house, and “Kitsuné” is the Japanese word for “fox”, a symbol of versatility. Legend has it, the fox possesses the power to change its appearance, just like Maison Kitsuné knows how to adapt its repertoire according to inspiration. Since the brand’s inception, this mythical animal has been Maison Kitsuné’s signature logo.
