Since its inception in 2017, Phipps has embraced the ethical principles of respect for the environment based on the mantra of creating a lifestyle that values the planet. In short, a modern fashion company seeking to do the right thing. So, what started as a small T-shirt project between friends has escalated to a modern, globally conscious fashion brand focused on building a like-minded community with the goal of re-connecting to nature. All of Phipps manufacturers recycle their waste appropriately, re-use treatable water, use alternative energy as much as possible, and follow fair trade labor practices. Now more than ever, the brand’s devoted and careful approach to responsible, sustainable manufacturing has generated headlines, propelled by the creation of garments that transmit and teach something also through their graphics and designs.
Born and raised in San Francisco, Spencer Phipps studied at Parsons School of Design in New York City and cut his teeth at Marc Jacobs in the menswear design team. He later relocated to Antwerp to work with Dries Van Noten. A finalist in the 2019 LVMH Prize edition, Phipps is currently based in Paris.
