NEW BALANCE ABZORB 1890

New Balance presents the ABZORB 1890, a lifestyle sneaker that draws from the brand’s DNA with an innovative design. The new model uses the original sole of the 2002, featuring full-length SBS ABZORB and a dynamic, technical configuration.
The upper operates on a different register. The construction is no-sew, with a wave-cut pattern layered over exposed mesh — a direct reference to the 890v3, a running model originally launched as a technical shoe.
Reflective “drop”-shaped inserts are applied on the forefoot, created using a high-frequency welding technique. A detail that enhances visibility while introducing a futuristic aesthetic element.
“For projects that reference archival models, much of the work consists of refining existing elements without losing what made them relevant. The goal is to create something that works today while remaining consistent with the original. I’ve been working at New Balance long enough to see some of the shoes I wore at the beginning of my career become archival references. I used to run in the 890v3 when it was on the market — having the opportunity to work on that silhouette made the process more tangible,” said James Lee, Lead Designer.
The campaign, shot by Nikolai Ahn in Wolmido, a port area just outside Seoul, reflects the spirit of the sneaker, moving between lively streets and natural landscapes.
The ABZORB 1890, available in several colorways, from bright yellow to deep purple, including shades of gray and sand, is available at Antonia Sant’Andrea and online.
