IL SOGGETTO IMPREVISTO. 1978 ARTE E FEMMINISMO IN ITALIA

Curated by Marco Scotini and Raffaella Perna, "The Unexpected Subject. 1978 Art and Feminism in Italy" is realized with the contribution of Dior, whose Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri not only is the first woman to lead the brand but has also actively written a new feminist manifesto since her arrival. The showcase, held in Milan until May 26, is the first exhaustive display dedicated to the relationship between visual arts and the feminist movement in Italy, identifying 1978 as a benchmark, when over 100 Italian and foreign female artists were active in Italy. That year, for the first time ever, some 80 female artists displayed their works at the exhibition "Materialization of Language," held at the Biennale of Venice. They included Tomaso Binga, Irma Blank, Maria Lai, Patrizia Vicinelli, Mira Schendel, Anna Oberto and Lucia Marcucci. The exhibit’s goal is to share with an international audience one of the most fervid periods in experimental research of the Seventies, highlighting the centrality of women on the Italian art scene in that in that period.
