BOTTEGA VENETA: 'CRAFT IS OUR LANGUAGE'

Bottega Veneta presents Craft is our Language, a campaign marking the 50th anniversary of the iconic Intrecciato—an emblem of artisanal excellence where precision in detail becomes a symbol of interconnection and the Maison’s collaborative ethos.

Shot by visionary photographer Jack Davison and choreographed by Lenio Kaklea, the campaign brings together a remarkable cast spanning the worlds of art, cinema, music, and sport. Among the featured names are Julianne Moore, Lauren Hutton, who turned the Intrecciato into a cinematic icon in American Gigolo, Neneh Cherry, Zadie Smith, artist Barbara Chase-Riboud, designer Edward Buchanan, and tennis player Lorenzo Musetti.

Craft is our Language stages a dialogue between artist and artisan, hand and mind. First introduced in 1975, the Intrecciato is rooted in deep craft knowledge and artistic imagination. The technique draws on Italy’s rich traditions of weaving and leatherwork, handed down through generations of artisans, and is defined by its innovative diagonal layout and meticulous proportions.

The Intrecciato never needs to be reinvented, only reimagined, through form, colour, scale, texture, and attitude.

More than a tribute to craftsmanship, Craft is our Language is also a reflection on Bottega Veneta’s Italian roots and an ongoing homage to the country’s creative thinkers. In both concept and aesthetic, the campaign draws inspiration from Milanese artist and designer Bruno Munari and his seminal 1963 guide to Italian gestures, Supplement to the Italian Dictionary.
