VERSACE - AMERICAN CRIME STORY
Aug 08, 2017
Based on the book Vulgar Favors by Vanity Fair writer Maureen Orth, the third installment of FX’s American Crime Story explores the murder of Gianni Versace in 1997 in Miami Beach.
Spanish actress Penélope Cruz will play the role of moon-blonde Donatella Versace, Gianni’s sister, now at the helm of the fashion house. Venezuelan actor Édgar Ramírez has signed on to portray Gianni and Darren Criss will play serial killer Andrew Cunanan, who killed four people before Versace and was on the loose. He committed suicide the week after murdering Versace. Ricky Martin, instead, eases into the role of Gianni’s partner Antonio D’Amico.
Each season the series, created by Ryan Murphy, considers a famous true crime. The first season was the award-winning “The People v. O. J. Simpson” in 2016; the second season, currently in the works, focuses on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The Versace story is slated to air in 2018.
