Simon Porte Jacquemus reunites with Nike, delving into the brand’s archive to reinterpret one of its most elusive and symbolic silhouettes: the Moon. Originally handcrafted by Bill Bowerman in 1972, the shoe never entered official production.
Revisited here for the first time, the Moon takes its name from the lunar imprint it leaves with every step. Conceived as a racing shoe, its early prototypes debuted at the U.S. Olympic Trials. At its core, the iconic waffle sole born from Bowerman’s intuition would go on to define Nike’s running heritage.
The design evolves through a crinkled nylon upper paired with a full grain leather Swoosh, introducing a sense of lightness with a subtle, almost sartorial precision. The elongated, streamlined silhouette reveals an unexpected reference to classical ballet. Jacquemus branding appears on the tongue, heel and insole, keeping the overall aesthetic refined and essential. The Blue Ribbon Sports inspired packaging acts as a link between past and present, connecting Beaverton to Paris.
The Nike Moon x Jacquemus in Sail colorway is available in stores and online.
