The enigmatic, mysterious Martin Margiela will make his debut as an artist in April with an exhibition to be held at Lafayette Anticipations, the art foundation supported by Groupe Galeries Lafayette.
It is the first time that the designer, who retired from fashion in 2009, shows his artworks, mainly exclusive and unseen sculptures, photographs and installations that reveal his obsession with transformation, cementing the notion that the designer has always been an artist whose work has been permanently on display both inside and outside the art world. Most pieces were made in the Foundation’s workshop, on themes that have always inspired him - the passage of time, disappearance, chance, mystery, and aura.
Committed to turning tradition on its head, Margiela has always been obsessed with discreet beings, forgotten objects, overlooked places and events and has constantly pushed the boundaries through shows, materials and forms that became conceptual and aesthetic revolutions.
