MCQUEEN - AN ICON ON FILM
Jun 05, 2018
Legend. Provocateur. Genius. These are the three words that pop up in the trailer of McQueen, the new documentary film dedicated to Lee “Alexander” McQueen, the legendary designer who tragically took his life in 2010. Words that perfectly describe a visionary whose unique personality, influence and legacy have left a sign and continue to live on.
Launched at the Tribeca Film Festival last April, the compelling film, directed by Ian Bonhôte and written by Peter Ettedgui, portrays McQueen's extraordinary life and prolific career through exclusive interviews with his closest friends, collaborators and family, plus plenty of footage of his ground-breaking fashions shows.
Though unauthorized by the McQueen estate and by the Kering-owned Alexander McQueen brand, the film offers an insightful look on the designer's life, starting from his graduation from Central Saint Martins in 1992 to his tailoring years at Savile Row, from his appointment at Givenchy in 1997 to his blockbuster extravaganzas. Plus, his final years before he committed suicide in 2010, including his mental illness and addictions.
