Adidas Originals and Willy Chavarria unveil their first collection — a meeting point between the brand’s classic design language and the designer’s aesthetic sensibility, deeply rooted in Chicano culture.
Adidas’ sportswear DNA is reinterpreted through oversized silhouettes, Mexican symbolism, and a strongly defined cultural depth.
Athletic heritage and iconic shapes are revisited with red stripes and trefoils, alongside floral embroidery — a recurring element in Chavarria’s collections.
Key pieces include a white sweatshirt with red and green panels inspired by the Mexican flag, finished with the word “Chicano” and the Aztec eagle; alongside polo shirts, tracksuits, and knitwear featuring innovative cuts.
Paying tribute to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Adidas reissues its iconic 1978 Jabbar basketball shoe, redesigned by Chavarria in two new versions: the Jabbar Low and the Jabbar Dress.
“Adidas’ role in Chicano culture is still a largely untold story,” Chavarria shared. “I love being able to present this historic brand in a way that reflects how I wore it growing up and how we wear it today. Collaborating with my closest friends and extended family on this project in Los Angeles was a powerful and personal experience. It allowed me to capture the beauty of our Brown brothers and sisters against the backdrop of a place many of us call home.
