THE BUZZING FIRST DIOR HOMME COLLECTION BY KIM JONES
Mar 02, 2019
A cascade of large pink and black bees characterizes the exclusive Antonia window dedicated to the Dior SS 2019 collection, the first designed by Kim Jones. The display ends on March 1.
Why the bee? Because it’s a longstanding house emblem, a reference to Christian Dior’s metaphor of his house as a buzzing hive of activity. For Jones’ debut season, the iconic Dior bee was reimagined by Kaws, the renowned New-York based street artist, and lands on pouches that can be carried by hand or slipped into a bag, on clothing and small leathergoods. Similarly, the artist also revamped the Dior logo in a playful, off-handed manner. Both symbols rev up T-shirts, blousons, trousers, backpacks and pouches. Moreover, for the first time, the designer also reworked Dior’s iconic saddle bag.
Overall, Jones’ first effort for the storied house targets the man of today who enjoys freedom and fun, with an energetic dash of irony. Japanese selvedge denim is embroidered in the boro style, a uniquely complex 17th-century embroidery technique that gives clothes extra resistance and strength.
