NIKE X OFF-WHITE™ 'FOOTBALL, MON AMOUR'
Jun 14, 2018
Off-White founder Virgil Abloh and Nike;celebrate soccer or football, depending on which part of the world you’re in, and the;World Cup tournament, which officially kicks off today, with;“Football, Mon;Amour,” an eye-catching clothing collection that includes the;Zoom Fly Mercurial Flyknit;sneaker.
For Abloh, football is an opportunity to blend memories of his youth such as playing hip-hop tracks on the way to high school soccer matches, with his interests in mixing lifestyle and sport branding.;
Graphic and bold;with;oversized checks, stripes and dots;in black and white, plus splashes of orange, it includes co-branded jerseys, shorts and sweatshirts with plenty of sport typography.;
“The great thing about the vocabulary and history of football is that aesthetically it has its own look. I was always inspired by the way European teams have a sponsor printed over the chest. When I was working on this collection, I wanted to celebrate the different variants of typography," says Abloh.
Additionally, all the numbers refer to those Abloh wore during his playing years while the jersey’s black-and-white checker board is a subtle nod to Czech strips. With his version of the Flyknit Zoom Fly, Abloh wanted to communicate where a player strikes the ball. “So, I put dots on the boot; if you’re going to strike the ball, your foot/eye coordination is basically the only variance of chance,” says Abloh.;
Once again, Abloh delivers the perfect game plan.;
