GUCCI REDUCES NUMBER OF SHOWS
May 26, 2020
Sending ripples down the fashion industry and earmarking the beginning of a seismic change that will surely impact Fashion Week, Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele announced that the house is reducing its shows from five to two and postponing the Spring 2021 appointment, originally scheduled for September, to an undefined date. Michele, who is convinced that the pandemic is a sign to slow down, will not present a collection in September so that he, his staff and artisans can take a breath of fresh air and benefit of more time to put together a new lineup.
Here, an extract from Michele’s diary penned on May 3rd during lockdown:
THE SACRED POWER OF PRODUCING REVERBERATIONS
Therefore, I will abandon the worn-out ritual of seasonalities and shows to regain a new cadence,
closer to my expressive call. We will meet just twice a year, to share the chapters of a new story.
Irregular, joyful and absolutely free chapters, which will be written blending rules and genres,
feeding on new spaces, linguistic codes and communication platforms.
In the meantime, the designer is preparing to digitally present the equivalent of a cruise collection on July 17, a story called Epilogue that will hint at the new course he is planning.
