NIKE X AMBUSH
FOR THE FAST-PACED
The Nike X Ambush capsule is arguably one of this year’s most buzzed-about collaborations. Fueled by the non-stop globetrotting life of Yoon Ahn, the Tokyo-based designer, co-founder of Ambush and director of jewelry at Dior Men, her pace informed the collection of edgy pieces, influenced by sport and by Nike’s extensive archives.
"When you live a busy lifestyle, the last thing you want is to think about how your clothes are uncomfortable or not functional," she says. "It's about a certain mentality — the commitment to be best at what you're doing."
Her mix of form and function includes two coats, a reversible fleece-and-metallic-foil-ripstop track jacket and a luxurious faux fur jacket, plus a DRI-Fit Stretch bodysuit, crop top and fleece pants.
On the footwear front, Yoon chose the Air Max 180, a silhouette to which she is especially attached. "The Air Max 180 is the first pair of sneakers I ever bought with my own money. I wanted it so badly, having seen it in the pages of a magazine," says Ahn. Her design takes the iconic runner to a new dimension by mixing it with elements of another Nike classic, the Air Zoom Flight.
"When I visited the Nike archive, I saw the Glove. It looks so cozy, so comfortable from afar. I wanted to capture that feeling and fully wrap the foot," she contends.
