MARCELO BURLON RESORT 2019 + MUHAMMAD ALI COLLAB
IN HIS LEAGUE
The third chapter of Marcelo Burlon’s ongoing collaboration with NBA informs the designer’s Resort 2019 collection, defined by his take on boxe and basket via a play on shapes and staples, colors and galvanics.
In that light, many pieces are branded with such teams as Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, and Golden State Warriors. Acid wash grey denim ensembles, mesh details and shiny anorak jackets bond sportswear and streetwear with the designer’s uber cool aesthetic.
The season also encapsulates a collaboration with Muhammad Ali, characterized by a more grown-up feel defined by wider silhouettes and attention to details. Ali’s signature is embroidered in rose gold across sleeveless hoodies, fringe hemmed T-shirts and shorts while the renowned phrase “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” is spelled across a Tee. And still, iconic photos of the professional boxer, activist, and philanthropists are printed on anything from French terry pieces to distressed knitwear hoodies.
