CELINE HOMME “THE DANCING KID” COLLECTION

Hedi Slimane’s Celine collection for SS 2021 and ad campaign target the TikTok crowd and Gen Z, with their insatiable thirst for luxury goods. Shot on the deserted Circuit Paul Ricard car racing track in the South of France, the lineup channels a luxe take on California thrift-shop chic infused with a skate subculture of the moment, imagined for what the designer refers to as “e-boys.” The interpretation is a mismatch of pieces, colors, textures - varsity jackets and bombers, polka-dot sequined track pants, opulent dinner jackets, oversized tie-dye knits and Tess and an elaborate patchwork blouson, among others. All layered liberally and completed with beanies, chain chokers, helmets, and even dyed hair. The overall laid-back grungy energy feels like an optimistic message that sooner rather than later, kids will be able to let loose once again at festivals and concerts.
