“Be Humble” riffs Kendrick Lamar in his latest video shot by director Dave Meyers, yet the special, eye-catching effects and technically-forward photography make it quite the opposite. The mix of evocative and high-impact visuals are Lamar’s burning head, disorienting camera motions, the Last Supper parody and the rapper cycling around a shrunken globe. In the beginning, he stands preacher-like in an empty room dressed as the pope and soaked in divine light and a few seconds later he is captured lounging on waddles of cash surrounded by semi-naked female accountants. According to various online reviews, the technology employed in making the video spans from fish eye lenses to a special crane-controlled camera robot, specifically a Bolt made by Mark Roberts Motion Control that allows for extremely fast accelerating and precise movement, to a GoPro Omni mounted on the handlebars of Kendrick's bike, capturing a quirky 360-degree effect. Many believe the song makes fun of his fellow rappers, on their egos and on Photoshop versu the real thing, instructing them to “Be humble and sit down.”
