THE POWER OF ART: DIOR SS AD CAMPAIGN

In a moment when Netflix’s period films, characterized by exquisite costumes, tempting colors and beautiful settings, have become a refreshing respite from the current situation, the new Dior ad imagery for the SS 2021 season is a striking expression of this dreamy scenario. Maria Grazia Chiuri tapped photographer Elina Kechicheva, known for her soft use of light, to create a series of painterly tableaux inspired by the Old Masters. Through intense lighting, saturated colors and dramatic chiaroscuro effects, the Bulgarian photographer channels two of the most powerful and inspiring bygone eras – the Renaissance and Baroque. The Dior campaign is like walking into a Caravaggio painting, where a crop of girls are gathered around in sumptuous rooms and draped in the House’s latest luxe pieces, including gossamer Grecian gowns, brocades, tailored blazers, flowy trousers, plus the latest bags.
