THIS YEAR’S MET GALA GOES VIRTUAL FOR ALL

Originally planned for May 4, the star-studded Met Gala extravaganza is among the many high-profile events cancelled due to the Coronavirus breakout. To fill out for the blockbuster cancelation, a crop of top fashionistas and passionate insiders has created an official "High Fashion Twitter Met Gala" page that is accessible to everyone. As it reads on the official HF Twit Met Gala page, the online page is a space where “fantasy reigns supreme and impracticality does not exist”. The virtual space, in fact, seeks to allow fashion enthusiasts from around the world to express and share their unique visions without real world inhibitions. According to Dazed magazine, this time around since there will be no looks to comment on, the community has opted to create a series of challenges where “virtual attendees will be able to share pictures of themselves in the outfits they would have worn to this year’s event, in-keeping with the theme of course, and compete in a wardrobe styling challenge, a brand challenge, and an illustration showcase.” The Met Gala is known for notable celebs that strut down the red carpet in glitzy, over-the-top attires that generates heaps of reactions from lovers and detractors. This year’s exhibition and gala would have marked the museum’s 150th anniversary with Louis Vuitton serving as the main sponsor of the exhibition, whose theme was “About Time: Fashion and Duration” with a showcase of about 120 outfits, some dating back to 1870 when the museum was established.
