Pieter Mulier chooses to tell the story of the strong connection between Alaïa and New York by presenting the WS25 at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, a unique creative exchange that marks a historic moment for the Maison.
New York has played a significant role in Alaïa’s history, and the new collection is shaped by an exploration of haute couture applied to practical, wearable pieces, approaching the realm of sportswear.
While the WS25, which brings fashion into the round space of the Museum for the first time, draws from American sportswear, the idea of freedom, both in body and spirit, is expressed through geometric forms that come to life around the figure.
The body is enveloped in circles, squares, fabric spirals, cashmere, fine knits, and sculpted poplin; zippers and buttons are eliminated to create a dynamic simplicity, while the fabrics generate optical illusions through hidden internal structures.
“This collection aims to honor both tradition and modernity. It represents the American ideology of dressing and a spirit that unites New York and Paris: the body is in motion and free. Just as Alaïa has always been,” says creative director Pieter Mulier.
